The story hit the web with a vengeance.
The Internal Revenue Service recently targeted various Tea Party organizations for tighter audit scrutiny. This seems to have impacted groups filing as 501 (C) (4) tax-exempt organizations.
Looks like the makings of a rip snorter of a debate.
This is something that will galvanize a wider debate… something conservatives have been yearning for, a real issue and something to complement their pursuit of the Benghazi affair.
But, I see a deeper, more sinister angle to all this and it involves two simple questions asked in the inquiries.
According to Josh Gerstein, the author of an article in Politico.com: the two questions IRS wants answered are:
1. “Does your organization support the existence of the land of Israel?”
2. “Describe your organization’s religious belief system towards the land of Israel”
Internal Revenue has also pursued organizations such as Z Street, a Jewish organization that challenges President Obama’s left leaning policies.
According to Gerstein:
“The same Internal Revenue Service office that singled out Tea Party groups for extra scrutiny also challenged Israel-related organizations, at least one of which filed suit over the agency’s handling of its application for tax-exempt status.”
What the %#@&. ?!?!
Of course it’s not news that Washington power brokers use the IRS or other government agencies for their own purposes. For those of us who remember, the White House rolled out an entire dirty tricks team to wreak havoc on Democrats during the Nixon Administration.
Remember Chuck Colson? Should any of this matter to the average American? Should any of this surprise us?
Well, only if you don’t toe the party line. In other words, if you or your organization live anywhere outside the acceptable Democratic Party line, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise.
It is so much easier to remain “under the radar” as the saying goes. Don’t challenge the status quo and they leave you alone. We’ve seen this before…think back to pre World War II Germany.
This very same attitude may be partly to blame for the rapid rise and eventual power grab in Germany by the National Socialist Party, later dubbed the Nazis. Could that spirit migrate here these many years later?
Within a year or two of Hitler’s rise to power, Jewish Germans (or German Jews) suddenly found themselves outcasts of their own society. Professionals of all sorts soon found themselves stripped of their citizenship, run out of their fields, drained of their assets, all because they were Jews.
Can this happen here in America? Well, a quick look at the Gerstein’s article might lend a clue. Suffice it to say that once power is placed within the government’s grasp, that power is awfully hard to tame. The seductive nature of power is that the one wielding always believes he or she can control it. But why probe Tea Party adherents on their loyalty to Israel?
It doesn’t take much to add two questions asking a group whether they support Israel or not. From there, who’s next? Christian prayer groups? Churches? The local Bingo game at the neighborhood Catholic Church?
Though the IRS is offering “apologies” I find it interesting that it only did so once the story hit the web . Tea Party members refused to accept the apologies while some Republicans are calling for investigations and hearings. And this leads me to why I am launching this blog.
When I wrote the Operation Last Exodus, it was with the sense that American attitudes towards Israel had changed. There is, needless to say, a major sea change underway.
The Obama administration kicked off new policy shortly after the 2009 inauguration. You may remember when the President traveled to the Middle East and met with regional leaders from Egypt and Saudi Arabia he blew off America’s most staunch ally in the region, Israel. In my mind and in the mind of many of my colleagues, it was the beginning of a major shift in U.S. policy dealing with Israel.
During the campaign, the President made it a point to woo Middle East leaders and quasi-governmental groups such as the Palestinian Authority. During his visit, his now infamous bow to the Saudi prince and acknowledgement of the “Holy koran” put all of us on notice that America now groveled to foreign leaders and apologized for past wrongs.
That was a first for any American President and I use the story to underscore my point. America is different. The “Progressives” have redefined “Liberal.” The party that once supported and worked hard for Israel has largely turned its back. If that message wasn’t clear in 2008, it is clear in 2013.
And now a subtle message has been delivered to supporters of Israel.
I will post more articles on this and similar topics in the near future.
And while I may quote from or post articles of interest on OperationLastExodus.com, the real purpose is to demonstrate to our readership that things have changed in America. Indeed, how they have changed.
Wake up America.
